Rotorcraft – RC helicopters for beginners and for those considering entering the sport of RC helicopters as their next hobby.
RC helicopters are complicated machines, knowing where to get started in the world of RC helicopters can be even more complicated. Rotorcraft walks newcomers through the process, considerations, and costs of getting started, as well as providing information, guidance, and visibility of what to expect longer-term including the art of the possible.
If you know nothing about RC helicopters and have no equipment or helicopters, please visit our why bother page for that extra little bit of encouragement to get involved. If you own an helicopter, and are looking for help on learning how to fly, please visit our section learn to fly. If it’s costs you are looking for at this stage then please visit our costs section, or if you are looking for advice on buying your first helicopter, please check out the equipment needed pages. If you are interested in demo videos on what cutting edge RC helicopters are capable of then please visit art of the possible.
In addition to providing information and guidance for beginners to the sport, our intention is to provide an indoor, all weather, all year-round flying club for all ages and abilities in Nottingham. A key emphasis will be placed on the introduction and nurture of new people into the sport of flying model helicopters to help preserve and grow the sport for years to come.
At this early stage we would love to hear from potential members interested in joining Rotorcraft and to help build our community in Nottingham. If you are looking for a new hobby, already own RC helicopters, or you are a hardcore 3D Master, please get in touch. Membership is free!
The club will be initially dedicated to electrically powered, indoor micro and mini sized fully acrobatic RC helicopters. Helicopters of this size are designed for indoor use, are extremely light weight (approx. 350g average), extremely powerful, and not only affordable to initially purchase, but also, and critically, very cheap to maintain.
Please register your interest in joining Rotorcraft by completing the form at the bottom of this page.
The Rotorcraft website is very much a work in progress so please pass by from time to time as the content is built out and new content added.
For anyone who is unfamiliar with the sport of RC helicopters, please take the time to view the promotional video below flown by Midland Helicopters team pilot James Platts. James is very much at the top end of the sport so please don’t be intimidated or deterred by the video. James has been flying since he was a young child and the skills he has developed take many years to achieve. The video should be considered ‘Art of the Possible’. More videos can be viewed under the Art of the Possible page.
If you are looking for RC helicopter clubs near you, please visit the BMFA (British Model Flying Association for a list of clubs in the UK.
